The town of Peacham, Vermont, is tucked away in the hills of the Northeast Kingdom (NEK). The NEK is the upper right corner of Vermont. To give you a better idea of its feel, let me describe it the way Mel Allen, Yankee Magazine, Editor in Chief, does.

 

“In autumn, people from all over go to Vermont for the fall foliage. But for fall foliage, Vermonters go to the Northeast Kingdom.” -citing Mel Allen

The towns in Caledonia County are situated in the hills, and to live here, you either need to farm or have financial resources. There are only a few stores, and it seems they don’t aim to attract many customers. In the center of town, there is a small breakfast place, but aside from that and a few art galleries or crafters who run their businesses from home, there is little commercial activity.

The town is very walkable, and just heading up church street will yield “the Vermont view.” A sleepy little town in amongst the hills with the town church and next to that the farm’s red barns, and cows ready for milking.

Just up the road is Danville to the north and Groton State Forest to the west, and several covered bridges. So by choosing Peacham as a stopping point to visit, you have so many options to explore within just a few miles.
