Montgomery, Vermont, is not like Stowe or Woodstock. It’s not as touristy or quite as picturesque. Real Vermonters live here, farmers, small-town business’s and all the things we think of when we think small-town Vermont.
One thing that puts Montgomery above and beyond the tourist-heavy towns is that Montgomery has covered bridges, six of them to be exact. (Longly, Comstock, Fuller, Hutchins, Hopkins, West Hill)

The covered bridges are only about 6 miles apart, so you can easily visit all of them in an afternoon. You could also stay at the Phineas Swan B&B and catch meals in between stops.
Also, you will see Jay State Forest to the North and East as well as Route 58 (Hazens Notch) to the East out of the center of town, which will take you up and over Hazen’s Notch to Lowell, Vermont. If you are chasing the fall colors, you can head North to Newport if it is early or head down Route 100 if it is late and look for colors that way.
