Autumn snow on Mount Washington in New Hampshire

Only at a very narrow window of time can you get the snow on Mount Washington along with the New England fall foliage at the same time. We call this Snowliage.

Mount Washington is best known for having the worst weather in the world. So you may (wrongly) think that this would be a lousy area for creating scenic New England images. (again wrong)…

Year-round, there are opportunities for outstanding postcard-worthy images, and I love getting the glorious New Hampshire fall foliage at the foot of Mount Washington as the Cog Railway Trains are chugging their way up or down.

You can drive up (which I did once and not for the faint of heart) or hike (I’m too out of shape for that), but Lisa and I did take the Cog Rail up a few years back.

The morning temps in mid-October can be in the upper 30s to 40s, but they will warn you that the weather up on top can be rather different.

Yes, this was the same morning as the picture above this. Winds were whipping at 30mph, and who the heck knows what the gusts were… But the trip is very worthwhile to create a memory that you will not forget.
